Zooniversity Music & The Teach Me How To Bucky Guy

UPDATE (01/06/24): Logan Cascia sent me an email on May 28 of last year. I didn’t see it until a couple of days ago, as I was moving some things around with my domains, switching email clients, and finishing up my degree at MATC. Anyway, he titled his email “Long time bro!” and had a plethora of interesting things to say. Cascia applauded me for making the video, and said that he wished I would have contacted him sooner so he could have contributed to it.

He expressed that he wanted to start out by clarifying, “I am not, nor was I ever financially involved with has never been financial involved with Quincy Harrison/Top Promotions/University of Wisconsin/UW Athletics in any way shape or form, as it relates to the “Teach Me How to Bucky” music video.”

Cascia went on to say, “Quincy’s arrogance and irreverence toward UW Athletics is the reason for the executive Wisconsin Athletic Directors (seen in the email screenshots that you displayed) dismissing me from my work-study job as a student.”

The director and cinematographer reiterated that we were able to get the video premiered on the Jumbotron because he was working for Wisconsin Football, capturing highlights. “Seeing those emails you posted in your video is crazy for me, since those individuals were the executives who were my direct bosses who dismissed me from my work-study job.”

Cascia reminded me that we agreed to a 3-way split of the t-shirt proceeds at his apartment in the fall of 2010. He looked into suing as well, but like myself, thought he would end up in an even deeper hole by doing so. “I researched the process and fees and time expense appeared to negatively outweighed what I believed to be the potential recovery.”

I appreciate that my former collaborator delivered these words as well. He said, “I can now see how he easily could have turned you against me and vice versa for his own personal gain.” If it seems like I’ve lashed out at you, and you’ve just been trying to live your life honestly, get paid for your work, receive opportunities to advance in your career, and grow, I am sorry.

He also mentioned the altercation between the Wisconsinites and Quincy at 16 Langdon. “I studied abroad in 2011. While overseas, I received a call from someone involved in the ‘Wisconsin native scuffle’ you spoke about at the end of your video.” Cascia said he had “a few notes to correct”. He wrote that the men involved in the fight were crew he hired to help with the video and he paid them out of pocket. “They were upset that Quincy was not compensating the remainder of the crew with funds they could only assume he was receiving.” Cascia wrote, “I never had a deal with anyone, and after watching your video, I believe that that I too, was scammed by Quincy.”

He took a meeting with Harrison at Dobra Tea on State Street in the spring of 2012. “I vividly remember him saying, ‘I asked you to come here today because I want to write you a check. But I can’t right now, as I am paying for medicine for my mom. You think you deserve something, but I don’t owe you a damn dime. But I want to pay you. Because I’ve been meditating lately…'”

Cascia said he was never paid, and hasn’t spoken to Quincy since that meeting. He said he’s tried to let it go and work on his production company, similar to what Roach said. To conclude the email, Cascia wrote, “I can understand why would feel this way after what he did, but I wanted to let you know the truth and would kindly ask for you to please remove my name.”

UPDATE (6/2/23): I finished captioning the entire video so feel free to read it word for word if you like. Also, I had 10 scholarships, not 11. I said both in the video by accident.

UPDATE (4/4/23): JT Roach sent me an email this past week with the title, “JT Roach – Catch Up”. We spoke on Sunday over the phone and the conversation was decent. He currently lives in California. Harrison resides in Indiana. Roach said that Harrison “is like my brother” but he also expressed empathy in regard to Harrison’s past “toxic” behavior. The WI > CA artist said that the two of them were never signed to Redbull records. He said he was put up to live in a house with Quincy while he was working towards a record deal. Harrison told me in 2017 that Roach was paying him – to live with and take lessons from him. He also said that I could pay him in a similar way for a comparable situation. Roach said that he didn’t know DeSouza at all before the day of the video shoot.

I was initially looking for a purely informational follow up to this video but I entertained a little conversation about musical hypotheticals too. Roach said that he didn’t mean to splice my verse into our collab to “slight” me, he was never a part of Zooniversity, didn’t know enough about (or wouldn’t speak on) the financials, and his only experience with the group was through our collaborations up until the split in April of 2011. He mentioned the possibility of collaborating and working together in the future. I’m always looking to opportunities to be creative so we’ll see what happens.

I appreciate the people sharing my story and allowing me to live. Thank you for you genuinely listening and trying to understand the truth. I’m excited to finally get this burden off my chest and hopefully find some much needed answers. Your support is always critical. Let me know if you have a contact that can help me secure some of the money I’m owed.

Some of the parties involved in this story are Quincy Scott Harrison aka Quincy Kwalae, John Thomas Roach aka JT Roach, Alexandra Offerdahl, Edwarda DeSouza, Logan Cascia, Danielle Robay, major record labels including Redbull Records, the fraternity Phi Gamma Delta and its Mu Chapter of UW-Madison, R. Kelly, the Ku Klux Klan, William Bean, Daniel Peterson, Tony Linz, Carlos Martín Uraga, Tom Beste, Tim Fram, the University of Wisconsin – Madison, its athletics department, First Wave and Associated Students of Madison programs, Frederick Huballa, Yung Gravy, Madison area police departments, local hip hop, small and large businesses throughout Wisconsin, international universities, and publications around the world.

Episode 15 of Mentally Enabled has been live for a week. Not much of a response from people in person or through the internet so far, minus the predicted heavy passive aggression. Taylor Wolfe has been the only person to share the video publicly aside from myself. Maybe there have been some on Facebook or other channels I don’t use. Probably not. Views are at 50 right now. Almost zero likes as usual. No journalists, lawyers, social media creators, government officials, hip hop, music, education, civil rights activists, business people – or any of the like – have reached out with any support.

I’m going to keep moving forward but I’m also thinking about how I can market this video. Do I send it straight to lawyers or do I invest in Facebook and Instagram ads? I know I need my reach to get outside of the Madison area but what is the most efficient and beneficial way to do that? Some questions that I’m going to be thinking over as I decompress from producing this monumental video. This is a huge relief and I’m hyped to see how life improves now that I’ve checked this box on my to do list.
