Popular emcees may have once been progressive or left wing politically but not anymore. Most mainline rappers given the opportunities to succeed in today’s world are very smallminded and backwards thinking. The gatekeepers of hip hop are not only from privilege but they’re also fascist, and this is what they want.
Bigots love to blindly argue that rappers are left wing, because most successful rappers are black. But that is not the case at all, if you listen to what the artists are saying. They stand for destroying low income neighborhoods and the people that belong to them, preach for deadly addictive drugs, fight to keep women marginalized, and carelessly handle firearms.
These are just a few examples. They would tell you I’ve never been welcome in hip hop or something like that. Because I talk like this. Or because I’m an independent. Whatever the reason, they’re frauds and don’t know how to handle it. Namecallers and anti-scientists, in positions of power, they turn to petty childish games as adults. Real right wingers.
What a letdown, right? You put your heart and soul into your craft and culture, and it turns out those you’re supporting and adhering to are almost all completely fake down to the essence of their being. Mainline hip hop is some regressive slop. For the most part.
